I make salad bowls from maple, elm, or cherry. Diameters range from 12 to 15 inches. My design objective for a salad bowl is to turn an heirloom; something which can be used for years and, if properly cared for, passed on for generations.

The bowls are twice turned. They are first turned as “green wood” and allowed to dry for a year or more. As a bowl drys, the stresses in the wood are relieved. The bowl then is re-mounted on the lathe and turned to its final shape. Salad bowls have a beeswax and mineral oil finish which is food safe.
